Work Based learning providers are invited to apply for £3 million of new LIG (phase 5) funding from tomorrow, when the full LIG 5 Prospectus will be published on ALP e-learning website.

The further LSC capital investment will enable the skills sector to continue their progress towards greater efficiencies in the delivery of learning and to support learner achievement and retention through the innovative and creative use of technology and elearning in LSC funded training provision.

The recent LIG 4 evaluation report identifies the continued and ongoing appetite of the skills sector to adopt new technologies, including web 2.0 and handheld technologies, to enhance the learning experience and to support the business process. The report also demonstrates how the publicly funded investment is succeeding in leveraging extra provider investment into elearning with many providers finding additional funding to scale up their own programmes.

ALP, who manages the highly successful programme on behalf of the LSC, is keen to see bids from consortiums, as well as encouraging applications from providers who have not previously bid for LIG funding. Providers will also be expected to address the increasingly important policy issues such as, sustainability, accessibility, green technologies, e-safety, and to identify where technology can be used to provide greater business efficiencies.

The role of JISC Regional Support Centres is to support and stimulate innovation in learning and RSCs bring expertise in the use of technology in both the delivery of learning and wider business processes. RSCs can provide advice and guidance to LIG 5 applicants throughout the whole process of exploring ideas, compiling and submitting a bid, successfully implementing the project and disseminating what is learned. Even if your bid is not successful, RSC support can help you plan what to do next. Experience from previous LIG funding rounds shows that the earlier you contact your local RSC, the more effective the support – and the innovation – can be.  Contact us via support@rsc-yh.ac.uk or phone 0113 343 1000
