JISC logoNot sure about the difference between a website and a wiki, a podcast and a sound recording, or how to best use them for teaching and learning?

The Effective Practice in a Digital Age: A guide to technology-enhanced learning and teaching was launched at the Higher Education Academy’s annual conference and helps to answer some of these questions.

The publication marks an important watershed in JISC’s programmes of research into teaching, learning and technology. As it takes those new to using technologies in their teaching practice as well as those ready for the next step, on a journey to using technology appropriately and effectively.

With JISC’s ‘Design for Learning and Learners’ Experiences of e-Learning’ recent findings and two new programmes of research into institutional approaches to designing and delivering curricula, just commencing, this new guide draws on a body of established knowledge and looks forward to an age of digitally empowered learning and teaching.

Features include ten recently researched case studies from further and higher education, that illustrate the different degrees of access to technology and institutional support that practitioners often experience in the real world.

Also accompanying the publication is a suite of online resources in the ‘Effective Practice Resource Exchange’. This currently holds video case studies depicting themes related to technology-enhanced practice, a selection of practitioners’ voices caught on camera, extended versions of the publication’s case studies for use in staff development and other institutional contexts, and podcasts expanding on key messages from the publication.

The audience of ‘Effective Practice in a Digital Age’ is those new to teaching or those practitioners who have not so far adopted technology in their practice. The purpose is to illustrate how technology can be harnessed to meet everyday teaching and learning challenges.

The publication can be ordered in hard copy or downloaded in PDF and accessible text-only formats. All resources associated with the publication can be downloaded for use in educational contexts.
