JISC RSC YH logoLast year the JISC RSC YH ran a series of courses based around the theme of ‘Taming the Mac’. These courses took delegates from the basics of the operating system interface, through customisation to more advanced topics such as integration with Microsoft Active Directory.

JISC RSC YH subsidised these courses to provide free delegate places for supported Learning Providers. Comments from delegates include:

  • “well structured”
  • “well organised”
  • “good learning environment”
  • “will now be able to provide better support to mac users”
  • “will be able to address security concerns”
  • “will enable more efficient management of our macs”

This year we are looking at the need to provide further training on Macs. It would be helpful if you could let us know whether you or your colleagues would be interested in:

Follow on courses:

  • TM5 Networking – Network System Preference; networking basics including Ethernet and Airport; configuring Locations, Services and Proxies; the three in-built troubleshooting tools.
  • TM6 Shared Resources – Sharing System Preference; SMB or AFP; Files Services for Macintosh; Workgroups; ExtremeZ-IP; cross-platform printer, font and file issues.

And/or any of the original courses that covered:

  • TM1 – installation and configuration
  • TM2 and TM3 – security and standard profiling
  • TM4 – Integration with Active Directory

If you have any suggestions for other regional technical training please let us know. Email support@rsc-yh.ac.uk with the subject title: “Technical training request”.
