Sheffield College’s Online College is now recruiting for two online professional development courses, both starting in June –  *LeTTOL* and *Getting to Grips with Moodle*

LeTTOL (Learning to Teach Online) will start on 25 June 2009, and finish in late October 2009. Two/three week holidays in August can be accommodated.

The core facts about the course are that it:

  • provides participants with the skills and knowledge they need to support individuals online, manage online groups, and devise content suitable for e-learning
  • is delivered in Moodle
  • has been running successfully since 1997, and is highly regarded in the online learning world
  • has received several awards including a National Training Award
  • has a client list which includes: Ministry Of Defence, Boots the Chemists, Assessment and Qualifications Alliance, Institute Of Management, Pitman Training, Ultralab, TUC Learning Services, as well as more than 250 colleges and universities
  • is accredited by the Open College Network at level 3, and leads to 18 credits
  • normally costs £450

Getting to Grips with Moodle will start on 1 June 2009, and finish at the end of July.

By the end of *Getting to Grips with Moodle* participants will have the skills and knowledge to:

  1. Use Moodle tools and functions to create an outline course, including creating a course structure and using a range of content creation tools
  2. Understand how  Moodle communications tools and functions should be used, such as forums, chat and blogs
  3. Understand the application of student activities tools in Moodle, such as the assignment tool, quizzes, wikis
  4. Understand the purpose of a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

In practical terms, this means that by the end of the course you will have created your own Moodle course, and added a range of content, learner activities and assessments.  You will get full tutor support while doing the course, and have the opportunity to communicated with other learners on the course.

The course is accredited by the Open College Network at level 2, and leads to 2 credits.  The course fee is normally £85.
