ALP logoThe year ahead will be a demanding period for all providers, as the sector embraces a new chapter with the oncoming dissolution of the LSC; the introduction of the Skills Funding Agency and Young People’s Learning Agency; the advent of the National Apprenticeship Service; the new recessionary challenges confronting DWP/JCP; as well as other aspects of sector reform.

To be held on the 13th and 14th May at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham, the focus of the event will be on examining the strategic vision and policy planning direction for the FE Sector against this background. With a strong line-up of guest speakers and workshops, the conference aims to inform and encourage debate on a wide range of topics related to skills and sustainable employment.

There will be keynote addresses from both DCSF and DIUS, and a strong line-up of guest speakers across both days, including:

• Rt. Hon Siôn Simon MP – Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Further Education, DIUS

• Rt. Hon Tony McNulty MP – Minister of State for Employment and Welfare Reform, DWP

• James Clappison MP – Shadow Minister for Work & Pensions

• David Russell – Director of Apprenticeships, DCSF

• Martin Dunford – Chairman, ALP

• John McNamara – Chief Executive, Alliance of Sector Skills Councils

• Andy Powell – Chief Executive, Edge Foundation

• Simon Waugh – Chief Executive, National Apprenticeship Service

• John Freeman CBE – Director of Raising Expectations Action Programme, LGA

• Melanie Hunt – Director of Learning and Skills, Ofsted

• Matthew Nicholas – Director Employer and Stakeholder Engagement, Jobcentre Plus

• Jane Williams – Executive Director, FE Regeneration and Delivery, Becta

A range of topical and interactive workshops are on offer across both days, plus an extensive exhibition area and the opportunity to attend a Gala Networking Dinner held on the evening of the 13th May.

The delegate rate is £200/day, with discounted accommodation also available.

Early booking is strongly advised for what will be ALP’s only major conference of 2009.
