Thursday 27 November 2008
East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham
How do we ensure that all citizens, especially the disadvantaged, benefit from new technologies?
The keynote address ‘A strategy for digital inclusion’ will be delivered by Wayne David MP, Deputy Minister for Digital Inclusion.
In January 2008 the government recognised the importance of ICT and social inclusion by appointing a Minister for Digital Inclusion, with a cross-departmental cabinet committee working to develop a strategy to ensure that all citizens, especially the disadvantaged, benefit from new technologies.
This conference will provide participants with the opportunity to discuss and debate ways of addressing social inclusion through the use of ICT. A third of adults are ‘not connected’ to new technologies. This has important consequences for those involved in implementing public policy, and for those involved in 21st century learning delivery. The conference will increase your knowledge of both policy and practice in the area of digital inclusion, help you explore the implications of the proposed government digital equality strategy and provide you with information on effective approaches.
You will find this conference of benefit if you are:
· a manager or worker in an organisation using ICT to tackle disadvantage
· a manager or practitioner working for learning providers offering learning opportunities in areas of social deprivation
· an ICT teacher, tutor or trainer
· a manager with responsibility for ICT User Skills delivery
