JISC RSC YH EventsExploring e-Portfolios

12 Dec 2008 (Full day event)

10:00 – 16:00

National Science Learning Centre, York

This interactive hands-on event will give an opportunity to try out a number of e-portfolios.

An e-portfolio is an extremely useful teaching and learning tool. It is an online collection of evidence that can provide a record of learner progression and achievement, easily accessible by both learner and tutor. It can contain text, images, multimedia, blog entries and links to other evidence.

This FREE event will give examples of how e-portfolios can really work for your learners and for your organisation. There will be the chance to view a selection of e-portfolios and try them out to see which is best for you. A highlight will be ‘The Big Debate’. Advocates of various type of e-portfolio, from commercial products to personalised learning spaces and open source software, will present their case and stimulate discussion about the various types of e-portfolio available. You can draw your own conclusion about what is best for you.

The debate will be followed by an afternoon of workshops where you can meet the vendors and try out specific e-portfolios.

Aims of the event:
• To explore and evaluate a range of e-portfolios
• To consider the benefits of e-portfolios for the learner
• To examine the institutional implications of implementing an e-portfolio

Target Audience:
This event will be mainly useful to those in the FE and WBL sectors who are interested in implementing an e-portfolio at their organisation.
