UK online centres has launched a round of capital funding available to existing and new UK online centres in deprived areas. Centres can apply for between £2,500 and £25,000 to fund items of capital expenditure, which should be presented in one of two formats:
New Centre Package – server, service connections (excluding rental and service contract costs), wiring, network printing, wireless network or LAN, software, PC workstations and peripherals, dedicated furniture (for workstations only).
Replacement/Upgrade Package – identifies existing set up and the elements to be replaced/upgraded and/or extended. This can also include installation of a wireless network, network printing etc.
Member UK online centres will need to be able to support centre users through the UK online centres user journey – a framework to enable digitally and socially excluded people to:
* Find out about the benefits of using the internet
* Increase confidence
* Develop ICT and internet skills
* Use online government services
* Progress onto further learning or employment related activities where appropriate.
If projects meet the requirements but are not yet UK online centres, they will need to apply for membership, which is free and straightforward. The full details are available at: https://www.helpisathand.org.uk/index.php/capital-grants-funding-200809 and the closing date is 21 November 2008.
