As part of a range of offers for Technical and Infrastructure staff this Autumn, the JISC RSC YH are hosting a FREE course “Taming the Macintosh”.
7, 15, 23 October 2008
NTI Leeds, Old Broadcasting House
Students are no longer perceived as merely attending a course for personal and academic gain. Instead, they are paying customers who demand the very best quality of service during their learning journey. With this in mind, a fully integrated and effectively managed infrastructure offering access to market leading interactive resources and media products is essential.
Taming the Macintosh is a course developed to meet the ever-increasing interest in the Apple product range and the technical issues associated with integrating those products into existing Learning, Teaching and IT infrastructures.
This course consists of four modules and attendees can choose to attend part or all of the course:
• Installation and Configuration
Delegates are taken through the installation options. They then set up an account, configuring each of the System Preferences.
• Security (Half day)
The user account is locked down, including the use of Parental Controls and explore protection against hackers and malware. We finish with troubleshooting tips.
• Standard Profiling (Cloning/Ghosting) (Half day)
We look at disk imaging and peer-to-peer, unicast and multicast cloning.
• Integration with Active Directory
Delegates bind Macs to an Active Directory domain. We then look at Mac OS X Server basics, before a hands-on session creating a Golden Triangle, twixt their Macs, an Open Directory Master and Active Directory.
Who should attend?
