JISC Collections would like to thank the 250 colleges that responded to the recent consultation to assess the demand for e-books in the FE sector.

Following the excellent response, the Learning and Skills Council provided JISC Collections with funding to procure a core collection of e-books, and to host the collection on an e-books platform, specially selected to support the needs of the FE community.

In addition, JISC has provided extra funding to ensure that colleges in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are included and benefit from the initiative.

An Invitation to Tender for titles to be included in the core collection and for the platform will be made available to publishers and aggregators in early October.

A Project Board comprising of representatives from the FE community will mark the bids received in response to the Invitation to Tender.

In January 2009, the FE community will be invited to assess shortlisted titles, and to submit their preferences in order of priority.
