As part of the government’s consultation to gain opinions and views on its higher education debate, JISC will be hosting a blog on its JISC Involve platform.

The Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), John Denham launched a debate on Higher Education in February 2008 when he announced the intention to develop a framework for Higher Education for the next ten to fifteen years.

He said that we in the UK "need to decide what a world-class HE system of the future should look like, what it should seek to achieve, and establish the current barriers to its development."

A number of individuals and organisations were invited to make personal contributions to this debate on relevant themes, with a view to informing and stimulating thinking on the future of higher education. "Social media offers new opportunities to be innovative in how DIUS engages with people interested in higher education issues in the UK."

Vincent McGovern, Stakeholder Community Manager at DIUS explains; "However, the desire for input which will inform decisions doesn’t end there. The views of a wider spectrum of interested individuals are also sought.

"Social media offers new opportunities to be innovative in how DIUS engages with people interested in higher education issues in the UK and we’re hoping that people will let us know their views via the ‘future of higher education’ blog."
