More than half of teachers believe internet plagiarism to be a serious problem.
A survey by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) found that 58% of teachers felt that a quarter of work returned included material copied from the internet.
ATL general secretary, Dr Mary Bousted, said: “Schools and colleges need to have robust policies to combat plagiarism, but they also need help from the exam boards and government with resources and techniques for detecting cheating”.
More than 55% said that their organisation did not have a policy to deal with plagiarism.
